A six season Nature Calendar for the Wombat Forest and surrounds (talk followed by a forest walk)

Many of us know that when it is officially Spring, it isn’t quite true spring yet in these parts - sometimes we have snow in September, and the wildflowers don’t really take off until November. Our European based four season calendar is inadequate to describe the cycles of flowering and animal behaviour in the bush. Six season nature calendars have been developed in consultation with Indigenous Elders in the Yarra area, and at Gariwerd (the Grampians).

But what about our cool foothill forests?

In this one hour talk naturalist Tanya Loos will talk about the use of nature journals to aid the development of a local six-season nature calendar. The talk will be followed by a walk on the Domino Nature Trail through the wattle flowering display of Pre-Spring.
